WhatsApp Business API Coexistence

Overview

The WhatsApp Business App Coexistence feature enables using a phone number simultaneously with both the WhatsApp Business mobile application and the official Cloud API. This allows businesses to maintain their existing mobile app while leveraging advanced API functionalities.

Dual-Platform Operations: Teams can communicate through a work computer during business hours and continue conversations via the mobile app afterward. "Messages are synchronized between the mobile app and the API."

No Number Migration Required: Existing WhatsApp Business App users can connect their current number to the API without registering a new account or changing their phone number.

Important Limitations

Coexistence is unavailable in Nigeria and South Africa. Additionally, "business phone numbers that are in use with both the WhatsApp Business app and Cloud API have a fixed throughput of 5 messages per second."

Technical Requirements

  • WhatsApp Business app version 2.24.17 or higher
  • Media older than 14 days cannot synchronize between platforms

Pricing Structure

Messages sent through the mobile app remain free. API-based messages follow WhatsApp's standard pricing model for the respective message category.

Setup Process

Enable coexistence by connecting your existing WhatsApp Business number through the platform's connection interface, optionally sharing conversation history, completing business information, and confirming authorization permissions.

Disabling Coexistence

Disconnection must occur via the mobile device through Settings → Account → Business Platform → Disconnect.
